A Year in Review
2016 was a ride. There are plenty of people who will say “Worst year EVER” – I’m not one of those people. Sure it was a bumpy ride…and I think there are plenty of bumps up ahead in a global sense, as with every year, but I’m choosing to hone in on the good things that happened in our little studio this year.
Inches were lost and gained (in all the right places!) – and each one of our lives has gained wealth in some way or another.
Wealth is the ability to fully experience life (#fitnessisfreedom as I like to say!)
We have forged friendships with every squat and bead of sweat in our classes and Lean on Me Women’s Only Strength Program (ahem, which starts this TUES/THURS). I personally love seeing all of the interactions that occur outside of our space through funny stories and social media shares. Whenever I doubt my decisions about what we do at UpRise Fit…I know we got that part 100% right. Our community truly is the best.
In 2016 some of you had to leave us, for jobs abroad (yay!), new and exciting opportunities with work, starting families, off to university…. We were and are rooting for you all the time! Our doors are always open for a visit and nostalgic bootcamp or two! You are all truly “family” to us.
Early in the year we did personal road maps to help reach our goals (We’re totally going to do that again!!) and looked inwards at ways to simplify our lives and routines to make time for personal needs and self care, like fitness. We learned that letting go of expectations, listening to our negative nancy and comparing ourselves to others was nonsense and ate up energy that could be used for wall-sits. We learned to laugh, roll with the punches and that an all-or-nothing attitude serves nobody. We discovered that change is not a linear process. We learned that it’s ok not to be able to do it all ourselves…and that sometimes the process is just hard.
To each of you just starting on your UpRise journey, the best is yet to come. Know that each and every time you walk up our stairs, we will greet you by your first name, high five each and every one of your wins and be there for when the road gets tough. Know we will continue to text and email you, and be understanding when you are having a hard time balancing your needs with other life necessities.
Hats off to our personal training clients who are consistently chipping away at some amazing things. We see so much – and often feel like proud parents when we remember how far you have come from when you first walked into our space. You guys did ALL the work to get where you are. All we did was hold your hand and kick your butt * just* enough <3
YOU MADE THE TEAM. YOU SWAM ACROSS THAT LAKE. YOU CRUSHED YOUR DEADLIFT. YOU RAN THOSE MARATHONS. YOU DID THAT SPARTAN RACE. YOU STARTED PLAYING SOCCER AFTER 50. YOU YOU YOU! Here’s to winning at life.
Here are some photos from the past year! You’re missing out on the fun if you’re not following us!
