Muay Thai

Come and challenge yourself with the art of the eight limbs, Muay Thai. Originally from Thailand, Muay Thai is a combat sport in which practitioners use fists, elbows, knees and legs to strike. It also includes some standing grappling (clinch) and sweeps. Now recognized worldwide as the most complete and efficient stand-up striking sport, Muay Thai requires endurance, explosiveness, strength and balance. It is a great way to stay fit or to get in shape while learning useful techniques to fight in the ring, for self-defense, or simply for the sake of mastering new moves and skills.
Classes are 60 minutes long with the following structure:
- 10-minute warmup (skipping, jumping jacks, floor run, shadowboxing)
- 30-minute technical training (strikes, shadowboxing, catches and counters, pad work, sweeps, clinch, light sparring)
- 15-minute workout of the day (strikes, circuit, push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, etc.)
- 5-minute cool-down and stretches
Beginner skills:
- Punches (jab, cross, hooks, uppercuts, body shots)
- Elbows (slicing, upward, downward, straight)
- Knees (straight, circular)
- Kicks (teep, roundhouse (low, middle, high))
- Blocks (upper and leg blocks)
Intermediate skills:
- Punches (feints, counters)
- Elbows (spinning back)
- Knees (clinch)
- Kicks (catches, feints, counters)
- Clinch
Equipment (ask your coach for advice if needed):
- Hand Wraps (necessary)
- Boxing gloves (necessary)
- Kicking pads (optional)
- Shinpads (necessary if sparring)
- Mouthguard (necessary if sparring)
- Cup (necessary if sparring)
- Headgear (optional if sparring)
Covid-19: Due to the pandemic, all close contact including pad work, clinch and sparring will be evaluated in accordance with official health guidelines. No one will be required to engage in any activity beyond their level of comfort.
